Perfect for first-timers and nightlife
General Luna is the beating heart of Siargao and it’s a great spot with lots of places to stay if you want to be in a convenient area near all the action. Close to the iconic surfing spot, Cloud 9, and with plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars to keep you busy when you’re done with surfing for the day.
The nightlife in General Luna is always buzzing and everyone tends to head to a different bar on each night of the week for some alcohol-fuelled fun.
Siargao is covered by dense coconut plantations that line each side of the roads everywhere you go on the island and the Coconut Tree Road is the main one of these roads. There’s also a viewpoint nearby where you can get amazing photos of a sea of coconut treetops that are native to the island.
There’s a famous bent palm tree that juts over the Massin River where people paddle up to practice their rope swinging skills and, again, get some really cool shots.
General Luna is a 40-minute journey from and to Siargao Airport.
HIGH-END
Set in lush green surroundings, the villas at Mango Tree are a luxurious hideaway in the heart of the island, a bit further out the busy part of GL.
MID-RANGE
Literally a stone throw’s away from the beach and many bars and restaurants, Latitude 10 mixes comfort and convenience under the same roof.
BUDGET
Romantic Beach Villas is an affordable beachside property with extraordinary ocean views. The place ranks high for cleanliness, location and service.
Distance to General Luna: 3 miles
Considered one of the best surf spots in the world, Cloud 9 can’t be a better area for you to stay at if you just want to roll out of bed, take your surfboard and head to the ocean first thing in the morning. There, you’re still near most amenities and ever nearer to what really matters: perfect waves.
Cloud 9 isn’t one of the main surf spots in the world and Siargao’s top surf spots for no reason.
Whether you’re an experienced surfer or you’d like to learn how to surf, you should definitely hit the waves whilst you’re there. Beware that Cloud 9 has a rocky bottom so if you’re a new surfer, make sure you get an instructor by the shore before you brave the waves.
The iconic wooden viewing deck at Cloud 9 pier has become an integral part of Siargao’s landscape. There you can get a privileged panoramic view of the skyline, making it a perfect place from where to watch sunrises and sunsets on the island.
Cloud 9 is a 10-minute ride from General Luna and a 50-minute ride from Siargao Airport.
HIGH-END
Kalinaw Resort offers everything that you’d expect from a stay in a luxury villa such as comfy rooms, including a private beach area as well as an infinity pool.
MID-RANGE
You can get island life feels at the Daluyoung Beach Resort. Tucked away in a quiet area near Cloud 9, you can see the beach from the resort’s pool.
BUDGET
A lovely laid-back resort with a super lush vibe, Tropical Temple shows that you can spend less money without having to compromise on comfort.
Distance to General Luna: 2.2 miles
In Malinao, you also won’t be too far from the hustle and bustle of General Luna but you’ll enjoy more peace and quiet as well as white sand beaches where you can go snorkelling and sunbathing.
Just a short boat trip away from General Luna, these three neighbouring islands can be visited in a day. Daku is the largest of the three so it has a palm forest in the middle which is surrounded by some coastal villages.
Naked Island is more of a sandbar and, as its name suggests, has nothing other than sand. On the other hand, Guyam Island is covered by a coconut jungle and it’s so small that you can walk from one side of the island to the other in just a few minutes.
From the airport, Malinao is a 38-minute journey and a 7-minute ride from General Luna.
HIGH-END
Sandy Feet offers luxurious resort-style beachfront villas for a peaceful and intimate getaway, boasting a terrace and a private beach area as well.

Although there isn’t a huge choice of accommodation in Pacifico, by choosing to stay there you’ll get pretty decent waves and these idyllic long stretches of white sand beaches all to yourself.
Magpupungko rock pools are one of Siargao’s main natural attractions and, although this means it’s a very popular spot amongst tourists, it’s one you definitely shouldn’t skip whilst you’re on the island.
Surrounded by beautiful greenery and rocky formations on one side and Magpupungko beach on the other, the rock pools have crystal clear waters, colourful corals and plenty of fish so it makes it a perfect place to snorkel, cliff jump or just chill out and marvel at the wonderful scenery.
Because the pools are tidal, they’re only exposed on low tide so make sure to check it in advance and try to get there a bit earlier to avoid the crowds. Ah! And remember to take some waterproof shoes or at least your flips flops with you, especially if you’re going to be climbing rocks or cliff jumping.
If you like adventure, you’ll enjoy Tayangban Cave pool as it’s a cave with an underground river where you can not only go swimming in the dark (spoiler: alongside some bats) into an open-air pool under 7 metre-high cliffs but you can also go cliff jumping if you fancy.
This lighthouse has seen some better days but is still a nice place for a quick stop if you’re around the area because of the spectacular views it provides. As it’s no longer an operating lighthouse, it hasn’t been maintained so climbing up to the top is a bit of a dangerous task.
From the airport, Pacifico-San Isidro is a 19-minute journey and a 1-hour ride from General Luna.
HIGH-END
Located in quiet and relaxing surroundings just a few steps from the beach, Asana Pacifico presents modern a-frame cabins with a clean design.
MID-RANGE
The rooms at Freedom Society are nested inside container vans and are cosy, beautifully decorated and fully equipped and close enough to the beach.
BUDGET
Another place where you can stay away from Siargao crowds, Bamboo Garden’s beachfront location is perfect for surfing, relaxing and enjoying great views.
Perfect for lazy beach days
Distance to General Luna: 38 miles
If you’d like to spend some quiet days enjoying a stunning landscape without having to hop on your moped, then north of Siargao can be an excellent option. The area is a bit more remote and accommodation is scarcer than in the south of the island but you’ll be rewarded with paradise beaches with hardly anyone around but yourself and some locals.
This is by far our favourite beach in Siargao as it’s one of those places where you pinch yourself to believe that you’re actually somewhere so beautiful. Alegria is a white sandy beach fringed by coconut trees and with such clear turquoise waters that you’ll want to spend all day long there swimming and relaxing.
The only waterfall on the island, Tak Tak is about 15-meter in height with a couple of small ledges that falls into a concrete pool. So it’s not the most beautiful waterfall you’ll ever see in your lifetime but, once you’re past the initial disappointment, it’s quite a fun place to spend an hour or so.
Santa Monica Pier faces the west of the island and stretches roughly 500m out of the mainland so it’s mainly an awesome sunset viewing deck.
From the airport, Burgos-Santa Monica is a 40-50-minute journey and a 1,5-hour ride from General Luna.
HIGH-END
Kaha Island Stay is a small accommodation with tropical touches and a modern design where you go to literally disconnect, as there’s no internet on site.
MID-RANGE
Tucked between a coconut forest and the Pacific Ocean, Izustarri is a cosy bed and breakfast completely off-grid that offers breathtaking sea views and a tranquil atmosphere.
BUDGET
DaRosa Del Mar is a small family-owned beachfront accommodation with well-set up bungalows and friendly staff, just a few minutes away from Alegria Beach.
Choosing where to stay can be a tricky task so we hope that you have found where to stay in Siargao, Philippines for your up coming trip! We hope this guide helps you to book the best place so you can enjoy your time on this paradise island.
